THE HOUSE OF CULTURE WELCOMES THE PRESENTATION OF THE CARULA FOUNDATION ON FRIDAY.
Úrsula Walter and Carlos María Criado have promoted the creation of a shelter in Agulae, Ethiopia for children from rural areas.
The objective is to ensure that young people from remote villages with a lack of resources have access to a complete education. They explain it on Friday, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the talk entitled “Ethiopia, the education of women. A solidary trip “.
The founding partners of CARULA, Carlos and Úrsula reside in Tarifa, from here and in contact with a small team of collaborators, they keep the “Casa Carula” active in Agulae, in the Tigrai region, in the extreme northwest of Ethiopia. It is a shelter for Ethiopian girls in the rural area that today guarantees access to secondary education for 32 minors.
Girls who live in small rural villages in areas such as Ethiopia are practically condemned to perpetuate the cycle of poverty. In the villages where they reside once primary education is finished, the most established vital option is early marriage. The nearest Secondary school is kilometers a day. To facilitate access to a minimum education, Carlos and Úrsula created three years ago a shelter that brings them closer to training, the door of change.
The Carula Foundation has the support and advice of the missionary Angel Olaran, present in the area for nearly thirty years with the attention of the most disadvantaged. He has been a valuable contact to break into a strange country and gain the trust of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in the area.
With all these guarantees and a minimal infrastructure they are guaranteeing the education and attention of 31 girls. The challenge is that they can reach up to 45, but that requires punctual collaborations. Citizens willing to provide small figures to expand Carula’s coverage.
The story of the Carula Foundation and Ethiopia will be told by them next Friday. It will be at a talk open to the public at the House of Culture, next Friday. The appointment has the support of the area of Social Affairs of the Municipality of Tarifa.
